Growing Onions

The pupils of Year Three planted 30 onion seedlings in different quantities in 4 separate pots. They took measurements of each pot's plants each week and plotted the growth on a graph. Each pupil had to formulate a hypothesis as a prediction of the results.
After the 6 weeks they harvested the onions and compared the sizes of the spring onions. The results were used to prove or disprove the original hypothesis. The pupils then wrote letters to Farmer Colin advising him on the optimum number of onion plants per pot in order to maximise resources.
