There was plenty to celebrate at Sherfield School as the Class of 2026 received their GCSE results, with students achieving strong grades and, importantly, making excellent progress from their individual starting points.

44% of all GCSE grades were awarded at grades 7-9, with a quarter achieving the very highest grades of 8 or 9. Furthermore, 69% of all grades were awarded at grade 6 or above.

Behind the headline figures is another story that is particularly important to Sherfield: how far students have progressed.

The results also highlight the progress students have made during their time at Sherfield, with an overall value-added score of nearly a full grade higher than those expected based on their prior attainment. This measure provides a valuable insight into the progress students have made during their time at Sherfield, beyond simply looking at their final grades.

"Results Day is a chance to recognise the many people who contribute to a young person’s education, often in ways that never appear on a results sheet. I would like to thank our teachers and support staff for the knowledge and encouragement they bring to their work every day, as well as our families for the trust they place in the school.

These results are the product of a great deal of commitment across our whole community, from the classroom teaching and individual support our students receive to the encouragement they are given at home. It is particularly pleasing to see that progress reflected across such a broad range of subjects and across substantial cohorts. For the students themselves, Results Day marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another and many of the Class of 2026 will continue their education at Sherfield Sixth Form.
