Rooms & Age Groups at Sherfield Nursery
| Caterpillars (0 to 2 years) |

|
Our Caterpillars Room provides a calm, nurturing space where our youngest children grow in confidence and curiosity. Recently renovated, the room includes dedicated areas for babies under six months, with gentle lighting, a peaceful sleep area with vision panels, soft play zones, and sensory sand and water stations. Children are encouraged to explore freely between carefully designed spaces, always supported by a consistent Key Person who knows them well. We work closely with parents to respect familiar routines around sleep, feeding and care, helping each child feel secure and settled. With rich indoor and outdoor experiences, your child is supported in building communication and early social skills, so you can feel confident they are happy, comfortable, and thriving.

| Butterflies (2 to 3 years) |
|
In Butterflies, children become increasingly independent and eager to explore. With doors wide open, children can choose to take their learning inside or outside. Much of the time, they choose to be outdoors, climbing, hanging and romping around our extensive grounds engaged in imaginative, self-initiated play, with adults gently guiding and supporting at times - but not interrupting learning. As children near Pre-Reception, we gently introduce early mathematical thinking, communication and language skills. Children visit the Prep School library to build familiarity and foster a love of learning, while also developing practical independence by putting on wellington boots, using cutlery, choosing snacks and pouring drinks. Through play and interaction, children learn to collaborate, negotiate and build friendships, developing the social foundations that support a confident transition to the next stage of school life.
