On Sunday 19 Sherfield pupils headed to Leweston School in Dorset to compete in the World Laser Run Qualifiers. Laser Run involves hitting an electronic target at 5m away (10m for 15 year olds and over) and then completing their run distance of 300m/600m a number of times according to their age. Although the first event of the season, this was a qualifying event for the World Laser Run Championships being held in China in June. We are still waiting for the official team list to be published but generally the top 8 are selected for each age group. Pupils represented their Pentathlon Club – Wessex Wyvern so some team results involve children not at Sherfield. Girls and boys have separate races but results are shown where they came in their male or female race as age groups below.
Under 9s – 1st Annie L, 2nd Isabel W, 3rd Joshua N, 4th Alexander C
Under 11s – 5th Jasper M, 8th Hugh G, 8th Bethy L, 9th Pippa G, 11th Chloe VB (Bethy and Pippa won team GOLD)
Under 13s – 1st Caiden G, 2nd Dylan E, 4th Lachlan H, 8th Douglas M, 10th Jesse N, 13th Evie B, 16th Siobhan H (Caiden, Dylan & Lachlan team GOLD, Douglas team SILVER)
Under 15s – 1st Travis M, 13th Rhys E (Travis and Rhys Team SILVER)
Under 17s – Aaron H – 7th
Pupils also had the chance to add swimming, fencing and obstacle course racing to their laser run to make it a triathlon, tetrathlon and full pentathlon. Hugh, Lachlan and Siobhan competed in the triathlon, Dylan and Rhys the tetrathlon and Jasper and Caiden the full pentathlon. Congratulations to all our very talented multi sports athletes. The next laser run competition is on Saturday April 27th, also at Leweston, with a triathle (shoot-swim-run multiple times according to age) race on the Sunday. Jasper won the pentathlon and Dylan the tetrathlon.
