Early Years Centre Manager

Head of Mathematics

Sherfield School is seeking an inspiring, organised and student-focused Head of Mathematics to lead our Mathematics department across Senior Prep and Senior School (Years 7–13) from September 2026. This is a leadership role reporting to the Deputy Head of School with responsibility for staff and students allocated both academically and pastorally. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the education of students at Sherfield School. As a 3 months to 18 years co-educational day and boarding independent school, there are many opportunities to develop and succeed.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the Maths department: set direction, produce an annual departmental plan and keep schemes of work under review to ensure a rigorous, up-to-date curriculum.
  • Lead and develop teachers: model excellent classroom practice, carry out observations and learning walks, run regular department meetings, manage induction and professional development, and promote a collaborative culture.
  • Drive student progress: monitor and analyse assessment data, lead timely interventions, manage setting/streaming where applicable, and ensure provision for more able students and those on the Inclusion register.
  • Oversee assessment and examination processes: ensure internal/external assessment, coursework and moderation comply with exam board regulations and school policy.
  • Manage departmental administration and resources: maintain shared digital resources and policies, quality-assure reports, manage the departmental budget, order resources, and oversee homework and cover arrangements.
  • Promote the subject: coordinate co‑curricular maths activities, contribute to school marketing and events (open mornings, newsletters, Speech Day), and advise students on curriculum pathways (GCSE/A level) and careers.
  • Support whole-school priorities: work with senior leaders to uphold the school’s ethos and contribute to wider school initiatives as required.
Person specification
  • Qualified teacher with strong secondary (and ideally Years 7–13) classroom experience and a proven track record in raising student attainment.
  • Leadership experience in a school department or similar, with excellent people management and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, experience of assessment and data analysis, and competence using digital platforms to manage resources and reporting.
  • Commitment to staff welfare, professional learning and inclusive practice.
  • Up-to-date subject knowledge and enthusiasm for promoting mathematics across the school.

Facilities Assistant

Sherfield School is looking to recruit a proactive, flexible and driven full-time Facilities Assistant, working within the Facilities Team, to ensure that the school site is kept up to the highest standards.

The Facilities Assistant will undertake a full caretaking, repair, portering and administrative service within the growing team. The candidate must be able to multi-task, have a positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining procedure and the school to the highest standard.

This role will require occasional out of hours call-out work and some weekend work (arranged in advance as overtime/TOIL) and require a certain amount of flexibility, particularly where seasonal peaks in the school calendar have an impact on the complexity of site use.

37.5 hrs per week, 52 weeks a year. Permanent, full time.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined below are not exhaustive but are indicative of the requirements of this significant and diverse role.

  • To assist with general maintenance on the school site, e.g. replacing light bulbs, cleaning gutters, unblocking drains, cleaning windows
  • To assist with general repairs as required
  • To assist with larger maintenance projects, e.g. decorating of school, refurbishment of areas
  • To help set up and clear away areas booked for internal and external events such as examinations, parents' evenings, concerts

Groundsperson

Contract: Permanent, Full time, all year round

The Groundsperson will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of maintenance, upkeep and appearance of the grounds whilst adhering to health and safety regulations. This is a varied and interesting role which will involve working mainly outdoors in all weathers. In addition to following duties:

Main Duties include the following:
  • To be responsible for the effective maintenance and upkeep of a school's grounds, including the Sports Pitches, Ancient Woodland & Lake.
  • Undertake routine preparation and maintenance work on a range of sports facilities and surfaces ensuring pitches are cut and marked out ready for sporting fixtures.
  • Undertake all preparatory and cultivation work to maintain safe quality playing surfaces.
  • Undertake minor construction and landscaping work under guidance.
  • Drive vehicles and operate equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment used is serviceable and regularly maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements. Monitor the use of consumables and spares and plan their replenishment.
  • Ensure the safe use, storage, calibration and disposal of pesticides and other similar substances In accordance with COSSH regulations.
  • Make recommendations to the Head of Facilities & Estates regarding improved work systems, labour and machinery utilisation.
  • Maintain good communications with staff and end users.
  • Remove rugby and football posts at the end of the Spring term and mark out the sports field for the athletics season. This will incorporate a 400m running track.
  • Rake over and top up the sand in the long jump and triple jump landing pits and mark out run up lines.
  • Set up, prepare, and assist in the junior and senior sports days.
  • Conduct low-level pruning of trees and advise the Head of Facilities & Estates of any trees which are a cause for concern.
  • The trimming of all hedges in the school grounds outside of bird nesting season.
  • Clear fallen leaves from grass areas and pathways during the Autumn term
  • Clear leaves from tennis courts prior to sports fixtures.
  • Assist in the gritting of the site during the winter months and snow clearance if necessary.
  • Assist with site security, ensuring unknown persons are challenged if on the school site.
  • Assist site staff during school open mornings held
  • Carry out other duties as reasonably required or requested.
Experience

Essential

  • Experience working across both grounds and gardens roles in a large or similar organisation.

Desirable

  • City and Guilds level 2 certificate in tractor driving and related operations
  • City and Guilds level 2 certificate in chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting
  • City and Guilds level 2 award in the safe handling and application of pesticides using handheld equipment
