“Sherfield is a school in which each child is valued in their own right.”

 Head of School

All children in the school are encouraged to develop their talents and realise their potential in the way that best meets their needs and personalities. The wellbeing of every child is at the heart of the school’s philosophy, for while we want them to develop a genuine love of learning, we also want them to be resilient, confident, and kind people who know how to form and sustain good relationships and make a positive contribution to society.

At Sherfield School, we understand the importance of the partnership between the school and parents.

We value this relationship and work closely with parents based on their individual needs. Our parent association, Friends of Sherfield, further strengthens this partnership by addressing the needs of our parent community. Regular communication and feedback are the cornerstones of our relationship with the parent community.

Finally, we are in a unique position to be Education in Motion’s (EiM) first school in the UK. As such, we can draw on their extensive experience and knowledge and uphold their focus on excellence in each of their schools.

The pillars on which EiM has built its schools - Students Come First, One Family of Schools, and Pioneering Spirit - are pillars Sherfield is happy to embrace.

I hope you find our website informative. If you would like more information, I invite you to visit us and experience for yourself the atmosphere that makes Sherfield a unique place to grow and learn.

Meet the Head

  • Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?

I taught my youngest sister to read, write and swim! From the age of 8, my heart was set on teaching as a profession.

  • What achievement are you most proud of as Head?

Changing the culture of a school. It’s hard and takes time, but it is worth it because of the impact it has on all the people in the building. I saw teaching quality, behaviour and student outcomes all improve. Seeing the school grow in confidence, clarity and ambition, and knowing that this positive culture directly enriched students’ daily lives was wonderful.

  • What does a successful school look like to you?

A successful school is one where every child thrives academically, socially and emotionally. It is calm, purposeful and joyful, with high-quality teaching in every classroom, with a culture of kindness, respect, ambition and inclusion. Students feel proud of who they are and what they can achieve. Success is visible in the consistency of practice, the strength of relationships, and the belief that every child can succeed.

  • What is the most important quality you want every child to have when they leave your school? And why?

The most important quality is confidence. It is important that children understand that they can take on challenges, express themselves and shape their own future. Confidence unlocks resilience, curiosity and independence. Feeling ready to step into the world with assurance means we have fulfilled our purpose as a school.
