United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Senior Team Challenge
Congratulations to the following year 13 and 12 pupils who were awarded certificates in this year’s United Kingdom Senior Maths Team Challenge : Will, Richard, Lawrence and Simon. This is a team competition jointly organised by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme and promotes mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills.
This took place at a Alton College where 24 teams from different schools participated. The pupils worked as a team solving some really challenging Maths problems . Several rounds down and after much head scratching Sherfield’s Team finished in 8th position; a highly commendable feat. Well done to those involved.
United Kingdom Mathematics Trust British Olympiad
After a very successful United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Senior Solo Challenge, Kevin and Will made it through to the follow-on round, the British Olympiad. This consisted of a three and a half hour paper consisting of six problems requiring full written solutions.
As well as challenging high-scorers from the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the British Mathematical Olympiad is an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competitions.
