On Tuesday we took a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils to The Vyne School for a Quad Kids Athletics competition. This event involves all 8 members of the team completing a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a standing long jump and a vortex throw. Points are scored for each event and then all added together for individual finishing positions and team points.
Our pupils performed exceptionally well across all 4 events but were particularly dominant in the 600m event. Douglas M (Y6) was the fastest 600m runner with Alex W (Y6) less than half a second behind and both of them running under 2 minutes. Declan O'C (Y5) pulled out a huge pb to run 2.05 - he ran 2.24 at school! Uri finished 2nd in his heat. The girls also ran incredible 600m races with Maya W (Y6) and Mackenzie M (Y5) getting huge pbs in 2.13 and 2.14. Aabha K (Y5) and Siobhan H (Y6) also had really good runs.
What made their performances even more exceptional was that it was 30 degrees on Tuesday. To pull out running like that in that heat was incredible!
A HUGE well done to our team who finished in first place and so are crowned as Basingstoke Schools Champions for 2024. There were 44 girls and 44 boys taking part. Individually they finished:
Uri 5th (232 points)
Douglas and Declan 6th (230 points)
Alex 9th (220 points)
Maya 8th (174 points)
Mackenzie 12th (166 points)
Siobhan 24th (145 points)
Aabha 25th (144 points)
