Boarding at Sherfield School

Sherfield offers full boarding, weekly and flexi boarding options for 9 to 18 year olds. Parents of current day pupils who are interested in booking or getting more information about flexi-boarding should contact Admissions using the following email address admissions@sherfieldschool.co.uk.

We operate a shuttle service for weekly boarders to and from Basingstoke railway station, which offers direct trains to London Waterloo every 15 minutes and a journey time of only 47 minutes. Allowing students to enjoy our beautiful countryside location during the week and the city at weekends - the best of both worlds! For more information please contact Admissions.

"Boarders will be thrilled – the brand-new, larch-clad boarding block is the smartest I’ve seen, with modern, private en-suite rooms for each pupil. The boarding block is on two floors, with boys upstairs and girls down. Each floor has its own well-equipped common room where girls and boys can mingle."

"My son is able to relate with his teachers concerning his academics. The teachers also give timely feedback to parents. The input from my son's teachers have been second to none. Our son is making progress in his studies. As a boarding student, we have nothing to worry about his well-being. Each time we have the opportunity to visit the school, we see a great team spirit among all staff. The boarding house staff, are doing a marvellous job of parenting so many students from virtually all over the world. I recommend Sherfield School 100% anytime. Long live Sherfield School."

Archer's Lodge

The new purpose built boarding house, Archer's Lodge, has 60 en-suite rooms for boarders from Year 5 upwards. The hotel style rooms include internet access, study area, a comfortable bed or bunks, bedside cabinet/chest of drawers, a wardrobe and a spacious en-suite bathroom.

Boys' and girls' bedrooms and bathrooms are located in separate wings for privacy.

Boarders have a resident House Master, a House Parent and other live-in tutors. Further boarding tutors live on school site. The House Master is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of boarders and the boarding staff team work closely with the House Master over weekends and evenings. We make available to all parents, carers and guardians our Statement of Boarding Principles and Practices, Guardians and Lodgings policy and Guardian Agreement (please follow the links).

Generously-sized common rooms with living, dining and kitchen facilities are available on each floor with comfortable seating, video and digital TV, board games and books. The moment the sun is out, the terrace is well used with shaded tables and seating. We encourage a home-from-home atmosphere so boarders mix and feel part of a family. In the evenings and at weekends, there is a varied and fun schedule of trips and activities organised so boarders can make the most of school facilities and the location - set in beautiful countryside, close to London and the coast.

"The quality of education and the teacher's understanding of our sons' educational progress and mechanism put in place and feedback has been excellent. The teachers are able to monitor and feedback progress to parents and effective interventions are put in place to remedy deficiencies from pupils. Our son is enjoying his education at Sherfield School. Sherfield School has given and is still giving him the opportunities to express himself in all aspects of school life. My second son finished from Sherfield and is now in his third year in the university. Our youngest son in Year 12 is doing well, and with feedback and close monitoring of his sports, drama and academic progress by the teachers and the boarding house team, we believe he is on the way to achieving an excellent result at the end of Year 13. My wife and I sincerely appreciate all the teachers and other staff at Sherfield School for a job well done in the lives of our sons."

"Sherfield is a wonderful close knit community that benefits from it's small size and works brilliantly for my son. The teachers are very committed. I love how open the structure of the school is especially the parents tea room. I chose Sherfield to help my son mature under a caring and positive environment and they are making good progress with him. This is in part that there is a real team effort from the key staff to get hold of issues and deal with them effectively. They are very positive about the kids. There is a very clear culture of mutual respect across the school. My son has made more progress in 1 and 1/2 terms at Sherfield than 2 years at his last senior school!"
