Exam Success in 2018

Sherfield School celebrated another year of A Levels with notable success in Further Maths where candidates celebrated 100% A*-C; Spanish and PE. In Psychology and German we saw 100% A*- A. We are delighted with the results, especially considering it is the second year of reformed A Level examinations. National figures are down compared to last year so our results are even more pleasing. We have two pupils off to the USA this year, one to study Engineering in Chicago and the other studying Art and Design in California. The majority of Year 13 are going to various universities in the UK this year.

Despite the newly reformed GCSE qualification system, with reduced coursework and increased academic rigour, 13% of the school’s results were at the top grade of 9 (equivalent to A** in the old GCSE grading system) compared with the national figure of 4%. Overall pupils achieved a 96% pass rate which is 30% above the national figure (source: bbc.co.uk). Of particular note were the 100% pass rates in Mathematics and 96% in English.

Mr James-Roll, Acting Head Master said ‘we were naturally concerned about the pressure the pupils were under with the new exam structure, but they have taken the challenge in their stride. We are extremely proud of them all and, of course, our staff who have gone above and beyond to teach the new courses and prepare them so thoroughly for their exams.’

Sherfield School pupils go on to study at an impressive range of universities and colleges including Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group Universities and international universities including Monash in Melbourne, Australia; Istanbul; KyAMK in Finland and universities in the United States.
