Final countdown to Christmas 2020

Final countdown to Christmas 2020

So, here we are on the final countdown to Christmas and I’d like to talk briefly in our newsletter this week, not about the twelve days of Christmas, but actually about the 65 days of the Autumn term at Sherfield School. We share on a daily and weekly basis so many stories of success and examples of pupils learning in so many different ways. From welly walks, to nursery activity mornings, from Piano extravaganzas to Autumn concerts, nativity plays, Pre-Reception performances, Year 5 and 6 shows, to rehearsals for “An Evening of Cultural Entertainment with Horace Green Prep School” (if you would like to see the real thing then please buy a ticket quickly for the Haymarket 6th and 7th Feb show as they are selling quickly! I believe there is probably snow on Friday, so I’d plump for the Thursday if you can!).

So what else? From British ski teams, national trampolining, European ice skating glory, World Biathele Championships in Florida, British success in biathlon and modern triathlon, equestrian brilliance, golf champions, tennis glory, cross-country success, rock climbing talent, incredible hockey wins and rugby development, our children are incredibly talented!

The pupils have participated in IBM events, museum trips, a Victorian school experience, pantomimes and West End musicals. They have enjoyed their new Enrichment afternoons which included sign language, robotics, innovation challenges, Jazz club, bikeability and Gordon Brown volunteering. They have attended afterschool clubs such as film club, fencing, origami, theatre tech, lego mindstorms, yoga and chess club. We've had University preparation including Cambridge interviews, able, gifted and talented days, scholarship support, campouts, boarding trips, Duke of Edinburgh bronze, silver and gold, Outdoor learning, thematic learning, mock examinations, a dose or two of homework, lots of challenge, engagement, ownership of learning and dialogue to promote academic achievement. If we scatter in a few parents evenings, coffee mornings, sprinkle with an exceptional fireworks display, Christmas market, Christmas decorations, second-hand uniform shop, a fabulous FOS committee and volunteers and you have all the ingredients for a truly exceptional school.

Our children are blessed with wonderful rich opportunities to excel and develop as well rounded, respectful, resilient, resourceful and reflective students with the world at their feet and the confidence to grab hold of their futures, to dream big and always with smiles on their faces.

I would like to thank you personally for all your amazing support for our school this term once again, for trusting us with the important job of guiding your children through their education and supporting them in their journey. I wish you the very best for the Christmas break.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
