It’s been a very eventful and fascinating week as we have enjoyed the pleasure of the company of some very special visitors to Sherfield. It’s always interesting to get an external perspective on life in our school and so we were pleased to welcome colleagues from the Society of Heads on Monday. These were existing and former Headteachers who were keen to understand what we offer at Sherfield. Following a broad range of activities, they left with a very positive view which is summarised with an email received which read, “lovely school, delightful pupils, very friendly, really nice atmosphere and extremely positive ethos!”.
So, with a successful visit under our belt, we welcomed our friends from the Independent Schools Inspectorate on Wednesday and were delighted to showcase the talents of our pupils and demonstrate to them what a wonderful school we have. This started prior to their arrival with questionnaires to pupils, parents and staff and I must certainly thank you all for taking the time to complete this. We really appreciate your kind words and support.
Although I am unable to inform you of the outcome of the inspection visit at this stage, I can certainly let you know that we enjoyed the experience and welcomed the opportunity to engage in positive dialogue with inspectors. The inspection report which is focused on Regulatory Compliance will be available in approximately 6 weeks and I look forward to its publication.
Finally, some further good news is that the Department for Education have recently released the A level performance information for the summer 2019 examination series. I am delighted to inform you that the progress that pupils make at Sherfield between the ages of 16 and 18 is excellent. The results of the release indicate that pupils at Sherfield achieve in the top 1% of schools and colleges, considerably higher than any of the other local destinations for sixth form. We are understandably very pleased with this outcome and will continue to ensure we provide an outstanding experience for our pupils.
