SHERFIELD'S MONTHLY NEWSLETTERNovember Edition

Students walking on winter morning

Wow! What a busy November we've had, filled with exciting activities and meaningful experiences! It's hard to believe we only have two more weeks until the end of the term!

This month, we've had the chance to participate in engaging workshops, collaborate on inspiring community projects, and celebrate our achievements together. Each of these moments has enriched our students journey and brought us closer as a community.

Here are our top highlights for November.

Sher-field Notes: We Went Outside for Global Outdoor Learning Day

The school was alive with energy as all ages embraced Global Outdoor Learning Day. From Pre-Reception to Year 13, every student stepped outside to discover how learning in nature can spark creativity, curiosity, and joy.

Our youngest learners in Pre-Reception and Reception set off on adventures to practise their map skills, navigating their surroundings with excitement. Year 5 students became nature detectives, investigating the world around them and played music, finding rhythm and inspiration in the sounds of the outdoors. Year 8 mathematicians became outdoor researchers, collecting and analysing real-world data to bring statistics to life, whilst year 7 DT students raced through treasure hunts that tested teamwork and problem-solving.

EAL students found inspiration in the natural world as they built vocabulary through sensory experiences, while Year 10 English students immersed themselves in eerie landscapes, exploring the woods inspired by The Woman in Black. This is just a sample of the exciting things happening. Everywhere across the school, there was laughter, discovery, and a sense of shared adventure.

Adding to the excitement was the ‘Spelling in Nature’ Relay House Competition, which brought out fierce determination. Congratulations to Wynstow, who claimed victory with sharp spelling and swift relay teamwork.

The day was a true celebration of Sherfield’s spirit—creativity, collaboration, and a love of learning beyond the classroom walls. With so much success to reflect on, we are already looking forward to May, when the next whole-school Outdoor Learning Day will bring fresh opportunities to explore, connect, and celebrate together once again.

We Gave Nursery a New Look

Our baby room just got a beautiful makeover!

We've created a calm, nurturing  space designed with your little one's comfort and development in mind.

From soft lighting and sensory play zones to cosy nap areas, every detail has been thoughtfully planned to make our tiniest learners feel safe, and inspired.

We can't wait to welcome new babies into our newly refreshed room!

Contact our admissions team and book a visit if you would like to explore our nursery for your little one.

We Paid Respect on Remembrance Day

Our school community came together to pause, reflect, and honour those who have served and sacrificed.

Each year, we lay our wreath beneath the plaque of Captain John Aidan Liddell VC MC, who once lived at Sherfield Manor, now home to our school. Captain Liddell served with great courage in the First World War as part of the Royal Flying Corps, earning the Victoria Cross before losing his life in 1915. His story continues to inspire us today.

This year, our wreath was laid by school parent Dr Mulae, who serves in the military, creating a powerful link between past and present.

This year’s competition was one of the most successful cross country events we have hosted in recent times. The commitment, effort and positive attitude displayed by our pupils, whether competing at the front of the field or pushing themselves to achieve personal goals, were truly inspiring.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Mark and the Facilities Team, as well as the PE Department, for their hard work in preparing the course and ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Please join us in congratulating all our pupils on their achievements and the pride they brought to Sherfield. Well done!

We Got Festive in Boarding

Our boarders have been getting into the festive spirit with an exciting lineup of activities this term. They have enjoyed exploring the Oxford Christmas Market, taking part in a magical winter walk at a light trail show, testing their skills at rock climbing, and participating in a lively festive quiz night. There’s always something happening in the boarding community.

The boarding house is now beautifully decorated, complete with a Christmas tree, thanks to the students’ creativity and teamwork. This has been a wonderful reminder of how boarding life helps students grow, create lasting memories, and feel part of a warm and supportive home away from home.

We Watched an Outstanding Performance at the Autumn Concert

The Music Department were very excited to host their first Autumn Concert in the Old Chapel Auditorium!

We enjoyed an excellent turnout to see some wonderful performances from school ensembles, soloists and duets from Year 5 and up.

The Orchestra opened with a rousing rendition of the Largo from Dvorak's 'New World Symphony', followed by a highly-spirited and rhythmic 'Test Drive' from How To Train Your Dragon.

Year 5&6 Choir sang 'Count On Me' by Bruno Mars beautifully, before a number of our pianists from across the school performed some exciting solo pieces.

Sherbets got the groove going with their arrangement of 'Never Gonna Give You Up', before Niamh in Year 11 showcased her jazz saxophone skills with a solo of 'But Not For Me' by Gershwin.

A number of vocal soloists and duets took to the stage throughout the evening, with a surprise fully-costumed performance of 'What Is This Feeling?' from Wicked by Aaria & Anika in Year 6!

The concert concluded as usual, with some standout vocals from our senior choir, Sherfield Singers, performing 'Heart Of Stone' from Six and 'Wake Me Up' by Avicii.

Well done again to all of our amazing performers and a big thank you to everyone who came to watch and support! We look forward to seeing you again at one of our Christmas musical events in the coming weeks.

We Turned Sherfield into a Christmas Wonderland - with help from FoS

We want to extend a big THANK YOU to FoS for transforming our school into a beautiful winter wonderland. They have worked incredibly hard to make this happen, and the addition of Santa's Grotto, our most beautiful and special grotto yet, is something you won't want to miss.

Join us for its big reveal at our Christmas Market this Saturday, November 29th, from 11 AM to 3 PM.

We Had Students Raise Money for Children in Need

 Children in Need 2025!

Our Year 8 prefect team organised fantastic activities during lunch for the entire prep school. We raised over £330 in school donations, with even more collected online. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed! Your support made a big difference!

We Had Snow!

Our Sixth Formers couldn't contain their excitement when the snow came and managed to get some photos before the rain washed it away.
