A Unique Sixth Form Experience

Occupying over 76 acres of stunning parkland, Sherfield Sixth Form enjoys modern classrooms and facilities in a beautiful manor house dating back to the 12th Century.

Sixth Form is an exciting time for pupils, as they are able to select the subjects that they are most interested and enthused by. In the Sixth Form, pupils enjoy a greater range of freedoms and responsibilities, although still benefit from the support that is provided by a school. Many of our Year 11 pupils stay on into the Sixth Form, although we also welcome applications from students from other schools, who wish to join the Sixth Form to take advantage of the facilities, environment and personalised teaching that Sherfield offers. A number of different curriculum pathways are offered in the Sixth Form, which ensures that students are studying courses which are suited to their individual aptitudes and abilities.

Sherfield Sixth Form offers an excellent academic education within an environment where support and guidance for the individual is paramount.  The Sixth Form Centre helps to prepare students for university life, with quiet study areas, common rooms in which to relax and socialise, as well as kitchen facilities. Personalised careers advice and support with preparing university applications are embedded into the Sixth Form programme of study, with additional support offered to pupils who wish to apply for Oxbridge or Medical courses at university.

"My many happy years at Sherfield have been filled to the brim with countless unforgettable experiences and opportunities, and I am certain that Sherfield’s strong community atmosphere and fantastic, supportive teaching have stood me in good stead to take on the challenges of the wider world over the coming years."

Joel, Class of 2019, Studying Geography at the University of Exeter

"Huge thanks too for the care and attention you have shown to our son over the course of his sixth form career. Whilst at times a seemingly momentous challenge, at the beginning of his journey at the school, changing country, school system and language, I can honestly say that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Sherfield with you and the broader school community.

Under your leadership and mentorship, he has really risen to the challenge of working hard and engaging with his tutors over the last two years – this has been very visible to us during the last weeks where our house has turned into an online learning centre!

We are full of respect and admiration for the pastoral approach Sherfield is taking towards schooling."

"The level of support given by my teachers has been fantastic especially as I know that others at different schools and colleges have not been so lucky."

Preparation for University

Careers advice and preparation for life at university are essential elements of Sherfield Sixth Form life. Personalised careers advice and support with preparing university applications are embedded into the Sixth Form programme of study, with additional support offered to pupils who wish to apply for Oxbridge or Medical courses at university. The Sixth Form Centre is well equipped to prepare students for university life, with quiet study areas, common rooms in which to relax and socialise, as well as kitchen facilities.

Advantages of Sherfield Sixth Form vs a Sixth Form College

Sherfield Sixth Form is a lot smaller than a college, which means that a more personalised approach to academic and co-curricular activities can be taken. Whilst we aim to provide the freedom of a college, with off-site privileges and a more relaxed dress code, whilst also providing students with a structured and supportive environment for their studies. This helps students to manage their time effectively so that all deadlines are met and sufficient time is spent on independent study.

Advantages of Sherfield Sixth Form vs a State School Sixth Form

Sherfield class sizes in the Sixth Form are considerably smaller than those in a state school, which means that teachers can personalise the teaching strategies they use in lessons. This helps to ensure that students are always challenged in lessons and are able to engage in effective dialogues with their teacher on the material they are learning. Small class sizes also mean that students are able to access additional one to one support and benefit from regular assessments and personalised feedback on their examination technique.
