A Murder Mystery at Sherfield

    04 March 2022

A Murder Mystery at Sherfield

It was late on a cold Friday evening in February; the school was quiet as all had gone home for the weekend, except through the long shadows and dark corridors, came the growing chatter of a 1920's soiree... our Sixth Form students arrived back at school for a 7pm invitation to the event of the year - a black tie party, hosted by the infamous socialite Elizabeth Bratt (Miss Nathanson). Looking absolutely spectacular and every bit the glamourous part for such an event, the sixth formers were not the only guests... there was warring Dr and Mrs Grant (Mr Rowson and Ms Seamark); the quiet and sad Miss Grace Lightfoot (Miss Martinez); the ambitious and gutsy politician Miss Sylvia Bluestocking (Mrs Younger-Murray), the aloof and traditional Major Henry Sergeant (Mr Page); Lucy Smith, a timid maid with a mysterious past (Miss Usherwood), and a charismatic detective with a trench coat and a pencil moustache, Detective Inspector John Marple (Mr Reynolds).

With everyone gathered for fine-dining in the Gallery, the evening took an unexpected turn when a blood-curdling scream ripped through the house, and it emerged that party host, Elizabeth, had been brutally murdered. DI Marple leapt into action declaring there was a murderer in our midst, and no one can leave the building until the criminal has been found; but to do so, he will need the help of all the invited guests to unpick the clues and alibis of those closest to Elizabeth...

The Murder Mystery dinner was an absolute hoot! The evening was masterminded by Sixth Form student Florence W, who organised the whole event, from concept to venue and catering arrangements, seating plans, invitations, and execution. The hugely entertaining 'Murder Mystery' story was crafted by Sherfield's own Imogen Usherwood and acted brilliantly by all staff members involved. The outstanding catering was provided by Sherfield Head Chef Keith Masson, supported by his fantastic team. All in all, the event was a huge success and one that we hope will be repeated in the future. You can watch a highlights reel here.
