Sherfield School pupils have a fantastic chance enjoy, protect and learn about the environment with our Outdoor Education programme.

Our stunning 76 acre site is the perfect place for Outdoor Education lessons where the children can learn about the environment in Sherfield School’s beautiful woodlands which are of scientific interest.

Years 5 and 6 have a four-night residential trip each year. This includes outdoor adventures and academic work. Raft building, kayaking and archery are very popular on these trips.

Year 7 Camp includes camp craft, camp cooking, a night-time adventure trek, a bonfire and orienteering skills.

Years R-8 enjoy a special Outdoor Adventure Day in the Summer term.

We also have Outdoor Adventure and Archery afterschool clubs.

Army Cadet Force

From Year 8, students can join the Army Cadet Force.

Sherfield School has a detachment based in school in partnership with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force.

The ACF syllabus covers activities such as drill, field craft, weapon handling, basic tactics, First Aid and Adventure training.

The Duke of Edinburgh awards

Outdoor Play for Early Years

Outdoors play is great for physical health. It also improves cognitive and social development in small children. While small children play, they learn communication skills, vocabulary and co-operation.

Appreciating the outdoors

Each child’s aesthetic awareness is heightened by an appreciation of the natural world. Regular lessons about their environment in a beautiful settng gives children the perfect opportunity to learn through their senses.
