Our policy is generally not to withdraw pupils from lessons for learning support as they miss vital curriculum opportunities. Teachers differentiate work with some support from assistants so that all pupils can access the learning objectives. The main role of the learning support assistants is to carry out assessments and to liaise with staff so that individual enrichment plans are in place for pupils who need them, including pupils who are more able, gifted and talented.
We make extensive use of appropriate individualised computer programs to enhance learning:
Accelerated Reader (Library) - to develop reading skills and comprehension;
Dulwich College ICT programme - to develop ICT skills;
Future School - an intervention program to address spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Taecanet - a National Curriculum based e-learning service.
Our 'Fit for Learning' and INPP (Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology) exercise programmes enable pupils to develop the balance and co-ordination needed for effective learning.
Our Challenge Days are linked to different curriculum areas, and are arranged throughout the year for more able Sherfield pupils and pupils from local schools.
