As the children move into Pre-Reception (Age 3+) and Reception (Age 4+) the curriculum continues to be based on the areas of Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World (including technology), Physical Development and Creativity (art, music, sport, dance and drama). Personal, Social and Emotional Development of our children continues to remain a priority.
In Years 1 and 2 the children continue to receive a broad and inspiring programme based upon the National Curriculum. We ensure that the basics of reading, writing, spelling and Mathematics are in place as well as teaching History, Geography, Science, ICT, PE, Music , Art and Design Technology.
Access to specialist teachers and facilities including Modern Foreign Languages, Food and Nutrition, ICT, Music, Art and PE enables children to really raise their levels of achievement. Our extended learning programme provides further opportunities to develop a range of skills and talents including chess, gardening and Mandarin.
Teachers have high expectations of both work and behaviour providing opportunities for everyone to develop their personal and leadership skills.
The children in GEMS Plus enter Juniors well prepared to take advantage of even more specialist teaching and preparation for the senior school.
