'Some people see things as they are and ask 'why'?
I see things as they have never been and ask 'why not'?'
George Bernard Shaw
Drama at Sherfield is exciting, motivating and fulfilling!
Drama is taught as a subject in its own right from Year 1 right through to GCSE and AS/A2 level. The Drama Department recently opened The Courtyard Studio in September 2007; an excellent multi-purpose performance space equipped with a new programmable lighting desk, 12 radio mics and versatile staging.
In lessons, pupils are introduced to a wide range of dramatic texts and study them in relation to their cultural and historical context. They will acquire the knowledge, skills and concepts to enable them to experiment with performing. An emphasis is placed on speaking and moving with fluency and clarity of intention; pupils respond critically and are encouraged in self-expression.
Pupils at Sherfield can take advantage of a range of opportunities and perform in a wide variety of shows throughout the year. It is expected that our Drama Scholars take a lead in the whole school productions and showcase their talents whilst inspiring and coaching other pupils. Last year we entered the ISA Drama Festival for the first time and were very pleased to win!
