The Art Department at Sherfield is a very exciting and stimulating place to be. We work using a wide range of materials and techniques of both contemporary and traditional artists. These images show just some of the pieces we have completed in lessons in the senior school, including cardboard and papier-mâché heads based on the work of Gabo, Chuck Close inspired abstract painted portraits, pastiche of the work of Hundertwasser using oil pastel and polystyrene prints using fruit as a subject matter.
Our first GCSE results from summer 2007 reflect the high standard of the work achieved in the department - 80% A* - C which also includes 20% A*, the highest percentage in the School. Installations, paintings, sculptures (some of which are now permanently situated in the School grounds), photography and video have all been used to produce the students work.
Our first Art Scholars have been selected and we continue to build on this through our Challenge Day for Gifted and Talented pupils, where pupils from Sherfield and 5 other schools based work on the abstract ideas and musical inspirations of Wassily Kandinsky.
