Curriculum

The curriculum at Sherfield School is underpinned in every way by the GEMS core values of World Citizenship, Leadership Qualities, Universal Values and Forward Thinking. These values mould curriculum planning so that pupils are not only prepared for academic success, but equipped to be well-rounded lifelong learners and responsible, proactive members of the global community, poised to engage the future with competence and confidence.

To achieve these ends, the curriculum will have a bias or emphasis towards the higher thinking skills rather than rote learning, managed investigation rather than purely didactic methods of teaching, good communication and teamwork rather than competitive personal advancement.

In particular, the preparation of our pupils for their future in a world where globalisation and technology are driving rapid change requires that the curriculum at every point will include the use of ICT to enhance its delivery and to draw on world resources. While the curriculum at Sherfield will comply with the National Curriculum as a framework, it will be regarded more as a minimum standard than a constraint. The curriculum will have sufficient flexibility so that it can be adapted to provide the best possible education to meet the needs of the individual and to maximise their own potential, according to their talents and strengths.
