Enrichment

Enrichment at Sherfield includes meeting the needs of pupils regarded as more able or gifted and talented, as well as for those assessed as having particular learning difficulties. We believe all children should have access to the full curriculum and generally do not withdraw children from lessons. We support children's learning as follows:

  • Differentiation by class teachers based on Individual Enrichment Plans (IEPs)
  • Stretch and Learn Programme – a special movement programme to develop balance, co-ordination and the sensory systems
  • Listening Programme to develop auditory processing
  • Jungle Memory
  • Accelerated Reader
  • Computer programs
  • Specific classroom support by assistants in core subjects
  • Challenge days for more able, gifted, and talented pupils

Our Assessment Team is responsible for assessment, recording and reporting. The Sherfield tracking system monitors the progress of each child including value added assessments from the University of Durham. You will receive a report five times a year as well as opportunities to discuss your child's progress at parental consultations.

Support and Gifted and Talented

Our aim is to extend all pupils so that they achieve of their best. We believe that it is extremely important to celebrate success and for more able/gifted and talented pupils to be proud of their achievements and for others to praise them and look up to them as role models.

We have Individual Enrichment Plans for Children who are more able/gifted and talented in order to ensure that they are challenged and make maximum progress. We make extensive use of appropriate individualised computer programs to enhance learning and also set in Maths and Science.

Our Challenge Days are based on different curriculum areas. Able pupils from other schools are invited providing opportunities to learn with different like minded people in different and creative ways.

Sherfield is working towards the NACE Challenge Award and is committed to providing for more able pupils and those with talents in all areas.
